All Roads Lead To...

FEELING LOST? These Are My Pointers

Making decisions is not easy. All the uncertainty and instability right now don’t but make it that much harder. The risk of external factors messing up our plans is so high that we don’t dare go all in. A certain level of mystery and going with the flow is fun… Problem is, most of us cannot afford being in this limbo for much longer…

Regardless if you’re about to graduate and have to decide what to do next year, you’ve recently been fired and need a new source of income, or if you’ve identified aspects of your personal life you would like to change, we could all do with some determination and guidance πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ«.

For starters, I highly recommend this TedTalk. πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ It helped me identify in my own life each of the roles described and know who to go to depending what it was I needed the most.

Secondly, it is key you spend some time (and I’m talking about DAYS or even WEEKS) researching all the options out there, figuring out which one you find the most exciting or fitting, and maybe even discovering new opportunities you didn’t even know existed. I am not kidding when I say that nowadays INFORMATION IS POWER . Valuing all the pros and cons of every single alternative you might be considering will not just make you feel that much more confident once you make a decision, but it will also bring you ahead of the game. You will be prepared to face the risks that your choice might entail and have a plan B in case A fails. The time you invest in this research is time and energy you’ll save your future self… it is time well-spent – and probably something we all have a lot of these days πŸ™ƒ.

If, on the contrary, you are one of those people with clear goals and dreams, but you’re struggling to know how to get there given the current circumstances, I recommend the following:

  1. Point out all the steps between your present and your dream situation (helps to do it starting from the goal and tracing back to the present). The more thorough research, the easier this will be.
  2. Consider all the different paths that can get you there – there is never just one! Chances are, you will encounter unexpected bumps in the road at some point. But having so many options laid out will help you just take another path and keep moving. After all… they do say All Roads Lead to Rome, right? “All” might be an exaggeration, but you get my point 😌
  3. Get started with the first step TODAY. Focus on each of the milestones along the way and enjoy the process, not just the end-goal. Being motivated and having a clear vision are key.

I am also a strong believer that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. When plans get dismantled, there is always a reason behind it. It might annoy the heck out of you at the moment… but sooner or later you will understand why it happened. And who knows?? You might even be grateful that you got sidetracked back in the day! If it is meant to be, IT WILL BE no matter how.

Okay, okay, back to real life. But he agrees with me 😏.

Anyhow… it all sums up in: i) Do your research, ii) Have clear goals, and iii) TRUST (and enjoy!) THE PROCESS. Be confident in every step you take and in every decision you make. πŸ–€

Good luck finding all the roads leading to Rome! πŸ—ΊοΈ And remember, “Find your why, and you’ll find your Way” – John C. Maxwell.
